Hibiscus problem. I bought an hibiscus bush with 3 nice swollen flower buds yesterday and woke this morning to find all 3 had disappeared. Nothing left except a stalk. Leaves still intact so don't think it's insects. Any ideas what might have happened.

It's an hardy perennial so not had any change of conditions. I haven't even put it in the ground yet.

Just moving it will do just like a ficus will drop its leaves when moved. You said that you purchased the plant yesterday so making the move from where you purchased it to your home did the trick. There will be more buds to come though:)

At least as long as frost holds off! If it is perennial, though, many more blooms next summer, then. What species is it, Barbarak?

Not sure of species but it's name is Ardens. Pink double flowers. Closer inspection shows the buds have been snapped off. No signs of dropped buds in foliage either. ?? Birds.

The 'Ardens' that I know is a semi-double, lavender form of H. syriacus. That is a deciduous shrub which needs a fair amount of heat to ripen its flower buds. When under stress, it drops its buds cleanly on a slight bulge on the flower stem--like the "trouble bump' on tomatoes.

« the apple tree i have has magots in all the apples. Why and how do i stop them?
Hibiscus does not like to be moved and it probably threw a fit and dropped the buds from stress. Look in the pot or in the bush itself and you will find them there. Also check for mealy bugs just to be sure it had a tantrum and nothing else. Are you keeping this plant indoors?
