Why has my Camelia produced a small fruit like an apple?

Either a seed pod or a Camellia gall, need a photo to be sure.

That is the seed pod. When fully ripe and beginning to split open, you could take and sow the seeds. Given a bit of luck and a fair number of years, you could have a new and different coloured tree!
