Can any one tell is it ok to use this years potatoes and use them to grow for Christmas ??

I doubt there'd be time for them to grow. They take about 18 weeks in spring and summer but would probably be slower in autumn. Why not try it and see - you'd only need two or three. (Not outside though)

You normally go along to the GC and get tubers especially for Christmas potatoes but they needed to have been planted in August or early September.

Probably true Snoop but, too late, in my view, to plant now.

I would suggest that growing potatoes for Christmas is fraught with problems. Why not, when you lift your crop, select the small ones and find a large tin, and some just moist peat or sand and bury them in the garden. Do this before the skins set and you will have new scrapers for Christmas.
