I live in France and for the past 3 years have been growing leeks with no problems. This year 5 plants so far have started to wilt and on inspection have found that the whole of the white portion underground has been eaten. Has anyone any idea what could be eating the Leek ?

My first thoughts were "onion moth" or "leek fly". Both lay eggs on or near the plant and the grubs do the nasty on your leeks. I've not heard of them eating the whole of the base of the plant but usually you will find tunnels eaten into them
