Woody purple sprouting stems

Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom

We've been growing purple sprouting successfully for many years in various locations round Britain. This year we've grown it again but while the leaves and flowers are green and tasty the stalks, even when trimmed, are tough and woody. Anyone know why?

Possibly the weather, depending on where you are - its been very different in different parts of the country but if you are in a dry part that might be the cause.

Ah, I did wonder if the weather had anything to do with it. We did have quite a dry spell for a while even though we didn't get much sun or warmth. Thanks Steragram.
