why are the buds being eaten from my fuchias and ice plants. We back on to a field but have a 4ft. hedge around the garden. We did have deer in the garden last autumn but can't see where they could get through now. help

Birds are very often the culprits when Iceplant buds are eaten. Sometimes you can deter them by spraying with artificial cherry or grape flavoring. Counterintuitive, but they don't seem to like the artificial flavor.

I suspect the deer are finding away in still, a 4 foot hedge won't deter them, they can jump well over 6 foot.
