Even though it was in a pot when you bought it, Big A, it had probably been ripped out of the ground at a Christmas tree farm and dumped in the pot. Its roots could well be damaged so will need some extra TLC. Keep it well watered to start with. We bought a two from Lidl a couple of years ago; one was repotted into a much larger pot and the second planted in the ground. Both sem to be surviving so far.

Hi, I hope you have a large front garden, Christmas trees get quite big, they look nice every year when you put lights on them, up to a height of 15 to 20 feet, but when they mature at between 70 and 140 ft, with a spread of 20ft, they can become a problem, I would keep it for a few years, and then cut it down for it's last Christmas, and get rid of it, it doesn't need any special attention, just make sure it doesn't dry out in summer, for it's first year or two, it shouldn't need staking.
I'm assuming that when you say Christmas tree, you're talking about a Picea abies, or Norway spruce, Derek.
