I'm in need of a new pair of secateurs and wondered if members could tell me which they would recommend. My last pair purchased only last year were Wilkinson Sword, but I was very disappointed in them.

No contest for me - Wolf Garten Bypass Comfort Plus, come in two sizes. I've had 'em all down the years, cheap ones from Wilcos, Wilkinson Sword, Draper, various others and even Felcos (which I absolutely loathed, found them uncomfortable to use). But everyone's different, some may prefer particular ones which are different from my choice.

Wolf for me too, except I prefer the anvil type, RS2500, which fits my hand nicely.

Hi Waddy, I've been quite happy with my Felco's for 30 odd years now, but as Bamboo says, it's all down to personal preference, Derek

I have wilkinson sword (30 years old, fiskars and felco - wouldn't be without any of them. I've also bought cheap ones and worked them to destruction on particular jobs rather than risk breaking my 'best'. But the thing is that you have to find ones that 'fit' your hand - if the fit isn't right in terms of size and pressure required then they'll just sit in a drawer gathering cobwebs.

Try as many pairs as you can, buy the most comfortable that you find and they'll earn their keep.

Come to think of it, my late mother-in law had a pair of Wolf secateurs which she had for as long as I knew her (30 odd years ) and I have heard of Felco. Pity they don't do a free trial lol! Thanks everyone.

I bought my felcos from a small independent garden centre. They offered to take them out of the heavy duty plastic packaging so that I could try them properly.
