A friend of mine has a question and I recommended that she join GOY to ask it but she is shy and does not like computers(the old school type) so I will ask it for her. She would like to cover over a 12ftx4ft area of drainage gravel. She does not want to remove the gravel nor cover it with a layer of sod. Is there a ground cover that she could apply with seed that would be full enough to hide the gravel bed? At present she doesn't have a photo to show you. Thank you from my friend and thank you from me for any answer you might have. Oh, the area is in full sun as I recollect.

Answers
Maybe some of the lower growng Penstemon species, Yarrows (Achillea species), or Crane's Bills (Geranium species). You may have to search out specialists for seed.

Thank you both. Based upon your planting recommendations, I will suggest to her that that 12ft section be divided into thirds and plant seed in one, yarrow in the second and crains bills in the third section. That would be a good experiment to try don't you both think so?

It could work. Just remember that once you have yarrow, it isn't easy to get rid of! :)

Previous question
Gravel makes an excellent, well drained bed. She could sow annual seed over it for summer colour and spring bulbs such as crocus offer earlier colour.
