I have just noticed a lot of ants crawling on my new clematus, will they harm the clematus or should I use ant powder

Agree with Moongrower - check for aphid infestation, treat for that, the ants will disappear, and ants won't harm your plant at all.

Hi Gwenda and welcome to GoY. The ants wont harm your clematis but you might want to check why they are there... are there aphids too?
