Primulas are also bright and cheerful for planting round the evergreens, they come in many colours and should soon be available. I would also pop some miniature bulbs in to add some extra spring magic! These are coming into the Garden Centres now for planting next month onwards. Check the height on the packets so as not to overwhelm anything else you plant in the pots. I'd add Skimmias to Hoya's list but for Pieris and Skimmia, you need to use ericaceous compoat as they are both acid soil lovers.

I grow lots of Hyacinths and then I can cut some of them and have them in vases in the house..I love the smell..

I would plant evergreen shrubs in them - like Euonymous, Prunus lusitanica variegata or some Pieris -they're guaranteed to look smart - then underplant with Violas in a colour that matches for extra va va voom!
