Someone gave me a cutting of a plant years ago, lost it in a move years ago. I have tried relentlessly to find out what plant it was. The plant grew kind of like a coleus,it had thick, kinda wide, blood red leaves, that felt like velour.I kept it in kitchen window. Can you tell me what plant this was?tyvm

As you're in the States, there's a much wider range of seeds available for Coleus than in the UK, and what you're describing does sound like Coleus - they're easy to grow from seed, so have a look at what's available here, also to see if you recognise any of the red ones

Could it have been Iresine ?
I grow them from cuttings and people often mistake them for Coleus.
The leaves are blood red.

These photos may give you an idea. Sorry they are not very good.

Well, the trouble with that is that Iresine leaves are smooth and waxy. Sorry, Hywel. :/

Could it be Begonia Rex?

Hmmm...hard to tell without a picture. It sounds like either another kind of Coleus, or maybe a Shiso.
