Not a garden problem, just a question for the ladies. You know when you buy a jumper you get those silly loops sown into the shoulders so that they don't fall off the shop hangers?
Well, do you, like me, cut them out and use them for plant ties? They're nice and soft so won't do damage. I've got quite a collection now.

Well, I've never thought of that, its not a bad idea. I do save tights though - they make great ties for larger, woody plants. Not attractive, but effective because they don't damage the stems, and they're very strong.

Good idea. Love lateral thinking like that! But for cardigans I actually use them to keep them on the hanger, especially if they are the sort that get creased if you fold them.

Actually, I leave the loops in place on most garments - I tend to hang thinner jumpers up on padded hangers, using the loops, so they don't crease in the drawer.

They drive me mad, so I cut them out and pop them in my ribbon box for future use (I have a handmade crafting business.)

I've never considered using ribbon as plant ties - too slippery to stay done up, I would have thought. Have you actually tried it out, or is it just an idea at this stage?

I leave mine on and then moan at myself if they show when wearing said article, my daughter however cuts them off and bins them, thankyou for the tip I shall start saving them now....

Yea, its really annoying that, I've got one jumper with a slash neck that has to be hung up because it creases easily, but whenever I wear it, the damned loops always end up dangling over the neckline...

I save them for gift labels and now have heaps of them so will try your good idea Arbuthnot.

Yes, I have tried them, Rosierose. I've been doing this for a number of years now and my only problem is UNdoing them when I've pruned a plant, say clematis, back. I've never had any problem with them loosening of their own free will. However, if you don't have the ribbon quite long enough it can be a bit fiddly tying it unless you've got nimble fingers. Sadly I don't any more.

You could always knot two together and then use them as ties, Arbuthnot. and I know what you mean about nimble fingers, I'm noticing a distinct lack of that quality in my own fingers these days!

Good idea! The only problem is that sometimes the knot gets in the way of a new one, if you know what I mean. I certainly find these ribbon loops very useful anyway.

I don't know much about ladies' undergarments or those silly loops; but I was wondering if you ever got my PM? Some people on here seem to have trouble sending/receiving pms and I never heard back from you. thank you :)

I always cut the ribbons off and keep them. They often turn out to be useful (I always make my own gift tags from recycled cards). Bathgate - I have no access to personal messages and perhaps I'm not the only one!

Glad to be able to give a good suggestion.
