Can somebody ID this shrub please? It is a thorny deciduous shrub with reddish teardrop shaped leaves and these brilliant red winter berries. What is this? Thank You.

They both look almost identical. I'll wait for it to leaf out in couple weeks to be certain. Thanks Sue.

Berberis, but I'm not sure which one. An internet search should tell you, though.

Yes I looked at the pics and read the description, there are so many different ones but the shape of the berries is the same as yours....

Catoneaster has thorns and red berries, it could be that.
As for you blog to me about a small orange tree; you will be surprised to know that I have kept this orange tree on the landing in my home for 6 years, never repotting, but giving it baby bio food and watering as I passed by, (I kept a pint bottle of water with 6 drops of citrus bio behind it ) and watered when the top of the earth seemed dry. There is light, but no sun penetrating in this landing window.
Sadly, even though I have now repotted, the tree is looking twiggy and the leaves are dropping....I think it is the end of the road for my orange tree - but its been good.

Thanks for the explanation but I don't know anything about a blog about an orange tree. Are you confusing me with somebody else?

Probably Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii). At least it looks like the older specimens that I remember from Flagstaff.
