Yes, though for the sake of the other wild life and pets I'd recommend you to use the newer organic ones based on ferric phosphate, not the metaldehyde pellets.

I find my slugs and snails are voracious and still eat anything they can get.

The ferric phosphate ones as recommended by Beattie are harmless, Hendrikus. I use them round the vegetables if I feel the need.
