Will a camellia japonica tiki grow and develop in a pot, if so can you recommend what size of pot would be suitable

Well you can grow it in a pot, but only for probably around 5 or 6 years - after that, it'll need more root room than even a large pot can provide. To grow it in a pot, if you do, use a pot that's large enough to provide 2 inches of free compost all round the rootball. A couple of years later, pot up into something bigger, again something that leaves 2 inches of free compost all round the rootball, and so on, until you've got to a pot so large you now can't actually repot it at all because its too big and heavy to handle. You'll need ericaceous compost, and don't stand it where it gets early morning sun in winter.
