I have a poinsettia which is still healthy and is shooting from the top. Is it possible to keep these for another year? If so, what do I do with it now?

yes you can but to get it to red again involves a lot of faffing about with total darkness for 14 hrs a day from late august onwards. to keep it a liv,e water when the compost is just dry and leave to dry out[ almost] between subsequent waterings. a general liquid feed once a month will also help.

Hi, welcome to GoY, as Seaburngirl says, it's a lot of faffing about to get the red bracts next year, much easier to just buy a new 1 each year, usually only cost a couple of pounds, this is 1 of the most frequently asked questions on GoY, and the answer is always, 'yes you can, but not worth the effort', Derek.

Many thanks for your help. It sounds as if it's not worth my while keeping it. I was so excited as I have never before managed to keep beyond Boxing Day.
