I am trying 'Xanthos', a dwarf Cosmos with soft yellow flowers and 'Double Click Rose Bonbon', a fully double variety on strong tall stems. One year the Cosmos (forgotten the variety) seemed to be a mass of foliage with very few blooms. I'm hoping for better plants this year!

Hi Shirley

thanks ... I will look up the varieties , leaving it late with planting seeds so I will have to be quick seeing what I want OR plugs is the other option.

Well, mine germinated pretty quickly, in a cold greenhouse, so you would probably be ok to sow seed now. I've just pricked out a tray of tiny Godetia seedlings in the kitchen while OH listens to live footie commentary on the radio, yawn!

I only popped my Cosmos seeds in last week Gnarly and they are up and need pricking out already unlike some of my others that are taking ages, grrr......

Gnarly this years new packet are the tall ones Summer Sensation mixed colours, last year I planted a supposedly dwarf variety but beggared if I can find the old envelope and cannot remember the actual name although Shirley's Xanthos does ring a bell, I have saved some seed from those, I remember talking with Karen about them and saying that some had grown same height as the others, however I also wondered if it was because they were in the shade of my apple tree...
Shirley I have known years whereby they have been all foliage and hardly any flowers as well...

Lincs, I definitely had a couple of years where the stems were really thick, lots of foliage and just a few flowers. On the other hand, some years have been spent dead-heading loads of flowers!
I hope the 'Xanthos' really turn out to be yellow and not a wishy-washy cream .....
