why have my clematis plants died back

Asked from the GoYpedia clematis plants page

Answers

Unfortunately, it may well be Clematis wilt, which strikes a plant suddenly. The best way is to cut back all the dead stems to the base. It may well send up new shoots if you planted it deeply, either this year, or in the spring.
