Its a dwarf rhododendron. Sorry I don't know the variety, but it's a lovely colour! :)

Thanks to you both. It was in an Azalea garden at a local stately home so I should have realised really!

I have the same plant I also don't know it's name as it was an inherited plant. I recently had to trim it as it fanned out like a tree canopy and looked very much like a bonsai tree. regretted it afterwards think if it goes that way again ill try and grow as it a bonsai :)

Hi, these are commonly referred to by gardeners as Azaleas, evergreen and deciduous Azaleas are in the botanical section Azalea, within the genus Rhododendron, there are between 500 and 900 species and probably thousands of hybrid cultivars and varieties, it could be A japonica, { Rhododendron japonica}, but it is definitely a member of the Azalea section, Derek.
