Hellebores - has anyone tried moving them at this time of year?

Same here - so long as you're prepared to keep up with the necessary watering, I've moved smaller plants when they're not in flower whenever I felt like it, so long as they're not medium to large shrubs. Probably not in high summer when its hot and dry, but otherwise...

I do the same as Derek above, but we moved one at this time last year and after a week of watering it is now thriving :)

I moved a couple 2 weeks ago and they look ok. so go for it and as already said plenty of water to help them establish.

Try not to damage too many of the roots and do not let them dry out. That is the killer for Hellebores, dry roots!

Goody that's what I thought but have never tried to move one just after flowering. Thank you all! TLC coming up...

I usually wait for a cloudy day, then move them. I'll also keep them shaded with an old linen sheet until they spring back in a couple days. The sun over here is super strong.

Lol B, I don't think strong sun will be a problem here in April...
I want to move a nice bright pink one near to a white double. The contrast should be nice and I might get an interesting seedling or two. I've got a bit carried away with them and am puzzling where they can all go - some are in a temporary bed at present.

I move stuff around all the time. That's one of the joys of gardening. I'm surprised how resilient and forgiving plants can be if you treat them with TLC. If something fails, I drive over the garden center for something else.

I'm another one who moves things when I want to, lets face it these days here in our beautiful climate one has to use ones loaf and go with the weather of the day and not the season, sorry that does sound very cynical doesn't it...

I agree with above! I move everything whenever it needs moving. I'm making/ extending a border now and when I've bought new plants I'll move existing ones and mix them all in :)

Hi Sue, Hellebores should be divided or moved straight after flowering in early spring, although with the weather as it is, I suppose you could call it early spring, or left until late summer, I can't see a problem moving them now, as long as you keep them well watered until they establish, I don't usually bother when I move things, whether it's the right time or not, I just move them, Derek.
