I grow Bussy lizzies in a border in front of a pine hedge every year. In spring the same border has had daffodils in....which I remove. I add a good fertilizer every year. They flourish one year and die the next. Do I need to add some other sort of nutrient to the soil to stop them dying

Don't remove them - wait for six weeks after the flowers have gone, then cut the foliage right down and plant your busy lizzies in with the bulbs. Feed the daffodils by raking in Growmore as the flowers die back.
