Hello, I'm in Manchester UK and I planted a 6' Silver Birch (Betula Pendula) imported from the north of Ireland last September at the end of my garden in well drained soil. To be honest I thought it hadn't taken, but over the last few weeks it has started to grow leaves - however, only towards the top third of the plant. It does have lower branches but these seem barren. Will it fill out or is this a common problem / evidence of something? Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for that reply. Does look weird though, as the leaves look really deep green and glossy. It was a purchase from eBay, the best price I could find for such a height... 24 quid for a 6' specimen - including delivery, I thought was a good deal...

Its just a matter of wait and see. Odd that it was imported when they grow so well on our side of the Irish sea.
