Hi, welcome to GoY, yes I agree with Karen, they are flower buds, but they have a way to grow yet, they usually space themselves out around the trunk, and grow to anything up to 2ft long, but they're very tiny flowers , but thousands of them, if you have a female plant, they can develop a tiny, spherical, blue/black berry, which sometimes fall to the ground and germinate, Trachycarpus fortuneii is it's botanical name, it's classed as half hardy, but I find that the larger they get, the hardier they get, mine survived those 2 very cold winters we had a few years ago, and even flowered earlier than usual, Derek.

Thanks.... I thought I might have palm oil ?
I will take some pics the palm it about 9 yrs old and was 14 ins high from B&Q now it's about 8 ft to its highest point, I love palms?
