Lawn Turf Question

I have just completed an extension and now onto the garden, I have spread circa. 6" of grade A topsoil and roller-ed (not too heavily) down and now have a really good level surface.

I then received a delivery of turf (grade A) but as I was laying it I noticed it was really hot and smelly. I carried on regardless.

I sent a photograph to the supplier and they said they are happy to replace it all as it may have had too much fertilizer added to it prior to cutting and rolling.

They said there is no harm in laying the new (second batch) of turf over the 2 week old turf and said that they do this quite often when growing it.

Is this OK if I just turf over the old 2 week old turf with new or should I flip it over then turf on top?

Regards,

Andrew

This is probably not what you want to hear, but to be honest, I'd take off the turf you laid first completely, stack it grass side down in an out of the way spot, then lay the new turf. Stacking it face down will produce a very useable and valuable compost after two years... but it depends on whether you've got an out of the way spot to put it in.

Taking off what's there and laying new (preferably after lightly raking up the surface of the soil to make sure its friable and loose) gives the new turf the best chance of taking.
