I potted on some lupin plants from plugs But over the summer most of them have died off One minute they are ok next the leaves start to droop and the plant eventually dies for no reason that I can think off they are regularly watered

When you planted them, did you plant them deeper than they were in the plug? On most plants that causes the stem to eventually rot where it touches soil. Perennials take a few months to die, while trees and shrubs can take a few years. The old saying is, "Plant it high, it won't die. Plant it low, it won't grow."
