I have a walnut tree in my garden which has quite a lot of fruit on it each year, but before they are ready the nuts begin to fall off, they have started to already. The shells of the nuts have brown marks on them and when the lleaves fall they are mottled and brown. Another question, could I pick the nuts now and pickle them?

Sounds like walnut blotch - its a fungal infection. Rake up and dispose of fallen leaves, leave none lying on the ground. If the tree isn't too large, spray with a copper based fungicide.

« I've bought some Photinia Fraseri Red Robin shrubs but not planted them yet....

As long as there is a kernel inside, yes, you could pickle them.
Not sure of the brown marks on the leaves and fruit though. I will look into it.
