Curious about this, too. Eucomis doesn't grow well in the desert, but my neighbors keep trying.

Eucomis bulbs will die back naturally so you don't need to remove the spent foliage.

I have some that stay outside and come through -5 centigrade but if I understand zone 5 correctly that gets much lower.

the bulbs hate to be sitting in wet conditions.
