Please can you identify this? My husband put together a display of fuschias using oak logs to attain the different heights. Earlier this week we suddenly noticed this metallic silver 'thing'. It measures approx 8cm x 6cm and today has started to turn black. Although we live in the Haute Vienne region of France, have you any idea what it could be? Many thanks.

Slime moulds and fungal growths are to be expected on dead wood from trees and shrubs outdoors, it shouldn't affect the surrounding plants.

It looks like one of the slime molds, coming out to form spores.
