Some of the lower varieties of Hypericum spread a lot and are very difficult to keep in check, as I found in my last garden even after I'd dug it all out. You might be advised, Nellie, to put it where it doesn't matter in case it is a real spreader.

I think you might be speaking of Hypericum calycinum, Arbuthnot - the one in the photo doesn't appear to be that one (too many stems and leaves in one place) luckily. H. calycinum is highly invasive and a right pain to get rid of - but that isn't true of the majority of the other varieties.
