I used to live where it frosted early sometimes...I would wrap the tomatoes individually in newpaper and pack them in a box. They were fine over a couple of months.. Or if you can pull the whole plant up and hang it upside down in the cellar, that works as well...but if you just are anxious and want to hurry it up...Spritz..plan works very well.. :o)

I heard on the radio this morning that you can put ripe bananas in the greenhouse with the tomatoes too. I suppose it depends how much air you have circulating,if the door is open a lot it won't work as well as your way Spritz :)

Most UK homes don;t have a cellar Catfinch and if they do it is very dark so no ripening there. I suspect I am going to have to go the ripe banana route this year as I have not intention of making green tomato chutney.

Dark closet will work..lol..but I had a cellar in those days...dark is fine when they are wrapped in paper or hung upside down...

Pick them and put them in a paper bag with a ripe banana. The gas coming off the banana will turn them red in no time!
