Hi , I am just about to buy a couple of pittosporum plants , could you tell me a good species in your opinion. Thanks grandadpic.

Just for interest's sake, I passed a house where I used to live 30 years ago recently, and had planted Pittosporum Irene Patterson in the back garden, at the back - I can now see it over the tops of bungalows nearby, which means it must be 20/25 feet tall....

Its down to personal taste and what purpose you want them for - my favourite is Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Irene Paterson' for the colour of its leaves, but they do all get rather large over time, with the exception of P. tobira. Note that all need sheltered positions - most are listed as H4 in terms of hardiness, and may be killed by a severe winter, particularly if they're fairly small. H. tobira particularly is less hardy, listed as H3 - more information on the varieties available and cultural guidance in the link below
