I have a lovely peach coloured day lily and all the flowering stems have now finished flowering. Should I cut these stems back to almost the base and does it mean the plant has finished flowering for the year? I thought day lilies kept on flowering throughout summer.

As far as the cutting of the stems my suggestion would be to leave as is.

I would cut the flowering stems, to keep them from forming seed pods, and otherwise let it be. Maybe give it some seaweed to encourage hefty roots for dormancy, and more bloom next spring.

When the stems dry up, i'll cut them off along with any dried up foliage. This is the time to divide/transplant if your're thinking of it.

There are many "everblooming" Daylilies that might keep it up through a short growing season, but most only bloom for about 5-8 weeks, and some of the older kinds would only bloom for 3.
