My tomato plants are in a large glasshouse and are currently 8/9 feet tall with a girth of 3 feet with very few flower buds. It would appear that my attention to water and fertiliser is resulting in plenty of strong growth at the expense of flower buds.
Is a hard pruning session the answer?

It's the fertilizer. I agree with above.

Stop the top growth, maybe prune down just a few inches off the top....and any side shoots from the leaf/stem joint these will increase when you stop the top, its trying to be a bush now
You are looking for a cordon plant
High potash feed twice a week too.....its not too late, I've had flowers up to october
Don't let it go mad, allow only a few trusses at this late stage
Good luck

Tomato plants are normally stopped from growing any higher when they are no more than 5 foot... Obviously the wrong fertiliser hasn't helped but you may still get some tomatoes.

I usually go for 3 or 4 trusses high depending on the variety, the small ones have a tendency to go wild when I go on holiday, my neighbour waters but doesn't pinch out the shoots ?

Hi there.
I doubt that pruning at this late stage will help, but see what others say.
What fertiliser did you use? If it was high in nitrogen, that will be the answer. Tomatoes require high-potash feed (one that's high in potassium).
