i have a about 20 beech shrubs for a hedge about 2 years old in my home which have grown to about 5 ft high is it possible to dig these up and move them to my new home as we are moving house. Will they survive and when is the best time to do this?

It is helpful to cut the shoots back when you move them this reduces the strain on the roots when they start work again.

Move them in winter - nov - jan, but not when its really frosty. Try to keep the roots intact and undamaged - fork all the way around first. And it might sound silly - but tell them they are going to be moved a few weeks ahead of time - and they will be much easier to dig up!!! Ensure they are planted in their new position asap - and give them a mulch of compost and plenty of water.
