Hi all need your advice on two queries! the first photo is of where I had a raised pond and am wondering can I put soil and compost over the sand and then scatter grass seed? Number two photo! I'm wondering what is eating my Dahlia leaves, if you can help that would be great, thank you.

Thanks Steragram
that sounds like good advice and will give me time to get it sorted and sow seed next month.

Hi Charnwood, My Dahlias are taking a beating from the slugs, it's been an Olympic year for the little critters I am told.

Assuming that you've removed any membrane yes you can. Best to dig over the base first though as the weight of water that was in the pond will have compacted it and it needs loosening. Then you will need to let the newly added soil settle for a week or two and then before sowing tread it down or walk along a plank laid over it. You are aiming for a firm but not compacted surface. Best to delay sowing grass seed for another month. This will also allow time for any weed seeds in the soil to germinate.
