I'm afraid there's no magic solution to this - you either ignore the Tropaeolum and if it gets cut, it gets cut, or you carefully extract it, cut the leylandii and attempt to thread the Tropaeolum back in place.

or wait until the tropaeolum dies back in the autumn and then trim. or wait until spring before it gets going again. not ideal for the trimming I know.
