The flowers of my runner bean plants are being pulled off a nd dropped to the ground well before the beans get a chance to set. This has happened for the last three years, so despite having an abundance of flowers I end up with very few beans. What is the likely cause and how can I remedy this problem?

Likely cause is birds Guest, only way to prevent if this is the case is to grow in a mesh enclosure.
