Hello everyone. Hope someone can help with this.
I have bought some Chempak organic onion fertiliser for my onion sets and garlic.
I forgot to ask if it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. I have e-mailed both the manufacturer and company I got it from but have not received any reply.
Hope someone knows the answer!

I checked the SDS (safety data sheet) for you. In summary the mixture is harmless and has no hazards for you or the onions. The only problem mentioned is that if there is a large spilll of it into a body of water it will cause a large bloom of algae. For any product, if you have a question as far as its hazards look up the product's SDS on the web.

Um, well you're not going to eat the Chempak, so the question of whether its suitable for vegans isn't really relevant, you're only going to eat the onions, which are suitable for vegans. If you tried to make sure there were no animal wastes or products of any description in organic fertilizers, there would be no organic fertilizers available for you to use. You may not want to consume anything of flesh origin, but soil organisms require humus rich materials, including of animal origin - this increases the bio diversity in the soil, making it more fertile, and good soil grows good plants - and onions. Using such fertilizers does not transform onions into non vegan produce - they're still just onions, a vegetable.
Your other option is to use non organic fertilizers, which contain manufactured feed of non organic origin - not so good for soil, but your onions will still grow.
