ID please. I have this shrub growing in a couple of places in my front garden. The photo is of the better one. The other is in my problem courner that had the Whitebeam tree and lots of Blackthorn growing in so has become very leggy trying to find the light. Can anyone tell me the name of it and can it be pruned right back, I presume in the spring as I have opened up the canopy. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Thank you once again. The leggy one is near the back of the corner that I think I will cut right back in spring and wait and see. Don't think I've got much to lose as it doesn't look very good as it is.

Have just looked it up, see what you mean about conflicting information. From what I've just read, that's if I read it right, the yellow one is vigorous but mine, the pink one is slower. Oh well, still going to prune it as really don't like the shape of it now I've cleared around it.

Yes, I'd go ahead and take off all that was necessary...

Judging by the new red leaves, I think its Photinia davidiana 'Palette' see link

And you're right, don't cut back now - best done in spring as growth gets going, but according to the RHS, this shrub is a slow grower, so they suggest not taking off too much. That;s not what is says in the link I've provided though, its described as 'moderate to vigorous' in terms of growth. Oh, deep joy, more conflict, who to believe... I would once have said the RHS, but these days, I'm not quite so sure...
