This is growing in my window box - it's just over 13" high and growing quickly. Could someone please tell me what it is? Thanks

looks like a young tree to me, have you anything like birch or cherry near you? in any case i'd have it out, if you want to keep it i'd pot it up and when its bigger find a place with plenty of space to plant it out-- woodland trust etc sometimes have saplings

Thanks - we have both a birch and a cherry tree growing near us. I remember seeing it sprout from some sort of nut (we also have loads of squirrels) but I couldn't identify the nut. When is the best time to repot it into a larger pot?

as long as you can put it somewhere shady and keep it watered then anytime, and unless you find somewhere to plant it it will need to be frost free over the winter, I couldnt distinguish the leaves properly but you could take one off to find out what it is, someone else here may know for you-- or google!, welcome to Goy bye the way, have a look round its a friendly, helpful and often amusing site

i think it would be best just to leave it wear it is till it goes dorement in winter . you have 2 opertunities . either very late autumn or very early spring before things have started growing . personaly id do it early spring to recover from the shock of moving quicker but there are reasens for doing it the end of autumn .

Hi Np I was thinking that if its in the window box they may want to plant it up with pansies or something

or even look out of the window if it's growing that fast lol

I'd get it out now while it's small. Pot it up if you want to give it a chance to grow or heave it out if you haven't got anywhere to plant a cherry tree. (Could be 40 feet high in 10 years). I don't think it's a birch.
By the way, welcome! :-)

Thank you all for your input. I'll try potting it in a large pot and see what happens. Hope I don't kill it :( I promise to give you all a bunch of cherries in a few years time (if I ever get to see any!) Once again thanks and I'm sure that I'll be back here with more questions soon.
