I have had a "common" fern in my shady bit of my garden. Obviously it dies down during the winter but this
year it seems to have acquired a brown rust on all the leaves..sadly I obtained a new specimen from Tatton RHS and this looks as though it is going the same way - starting the centre of the plant

Could you show a photo please? Do you know which fern it is? There are many common ones. Is the brown on the surface of the fronds or on the back?
