My neighbour has planted a Nowegian Maple within 1 metre of my house sewer & 2 metres from my garage, which is integrat to the house.
Having read that this species has prolific growth & spread it is obvious that in a short period in time the tree, which has already grown to 10ft in its 1 year in the ground, will expand over my roof & across my patio. I also understand it can have a devastating effect on surrounding plants, shrubs & foundations, as it draws a high volume of water from the ground.
Is what I have read correct?

How anyone can plant a tree so close to a dwelling, never mind a drain, is beyond comprehension.
If your neighbour refuses to accept that this is a major problem, come back for further advice if you need to. Hopefully it won't come to that.

I can never understand the number of people who plant tress close to the house - even in front of a window. At best they block the light, at worst they interfere with just about everything else with disastrous consequences. it's also ver inconsiderate of your neighbour.
Do follow Stera's advice and have a serious talk with next door. If you can go armed with print outs of the dangers.

It is correct and the roots can undermine your foundations You are going to have to have an interesting discussion with your neighbour...
Sounds as though its very near their house too so you can frighten them with statistics. This may give you some ammunition and there are others on line.
