diseased laurel

I have an established hedge which the new leaves are either being eaten or are covereed in a white fungus and are curling and dying off . What can i do

Our laurel hedge had the same problem earlier in the year and the same last year. We tried spraying it but the best cure was to cut out the affected areas. It's a bit harsh but the hedge soon recovers.
