I have got some dwarf sunflowers in pots one of the sunflower heads is now dying off can I cut the head or do I just take the petals off and leave the seedy middle bit?

I'd be inclined to leave alone for the birds to eat the seeds, you wont get another flower even if you do cut that one off and as it is an annual there is no reason to try to put energy back to the plants roots.

I leave the heads on until all the seeds have developed and then stick the whole flower head on the bird table!
