No idea but I doubt it, Kindle is there to make a profit out of you... Curious as to why you expect us to be able to answer your question

I can't get library ebooks to work on my Kindle Fire HD.

Thank you folks.
I did hesitate Moongrower, I hoped it wouldn't annoy anybody, but as there are quite a few tablet users on here I hoped nobody would mind the question and that somebody would know the answer. Other people have asked questions about their tablets, or I wouldn't have. It's not surprising that Kindle tablets won't do it but I hoped some of the others might.
Anyway, nothing venture,nothing win...

Steragram many of us wonder about which gadgets to buy to be of most use to us so I'm sure you will not have annoyed anyone. I found this on the internet which might be of use to you and other Kindle owners. https://support.ebooks.com/hc/en-gb/articles/212026386-Will-My-Kindle-Work-With-Your-Ebooks-

Thank you Scotsgran. My tablet isn't a Kindle but i have downloaded a Kindle app, so it doesn't match any of the models on the link - thank you for that though, it was interesting. I guess the only thing to do is to try it and see...I have only had it a couple of days and haven't got much further than discovering how to turn it on...
Maybe I can just download the books direct from my laptop. Worth a try anyway, if I can discover how to do it, lol.

My son gave me a tablet with the app to get books installed for me. I can get free books or purchase books to download. It is so much better than a bulky book and no need to have the bedside light on when I am reading in bed.

Mine is a Samsung Tablet and I added the Kindle and Kobo Apps, got rid of the Kobo, Kindle is cheaper plus has freebies sometimes, I also have a Kindle Paperwhite, all are synced together and I can read on all of them, I download all from my laptop Stera, hope you enjoy finding out how to use it, I had so much fun, I handed it to hubby and he gave it back when it was sorted....

Lol Lynclass that is what I call fun. Hand it over then get it back all sorted.

Stera, there are literally millions of books on Kindle. I read one approx every two days and have never run out of books to read. I hardly ever pay more than £1.99 and it's usually 99p. If you go online on your laptop to Amazon you will also find free books to download. On Kindle Store look out for Daily Deals and Monthly Deals. Also, a list of books offered for £1. I love my kindle and take it everywhere I go; fab for travelling as long as I download books whilst still at home.

S'gran its what I did with all of them, funny thing is that he is the one who now gets in a pickle sometimes with his own.
Merlin we all have them here and yes they do get carted about, its very quiet here at times when we are all reading and woe betide anyone who speaks to hubby if he's reading a good one, lol....

OH watches films on his tablet. Things have changed a lot since he used to have to hand over a jam jar to get in to the Saturday picture shows.

Lol, I remember getting a penny back for jam jars...never used jam jars to get into the cinema though!
The books I was thinking of are not kindle ones, they are rather specialist ones that I already have on my laptop - just thought it would be easier to read them in the comfort of my armchair. I would love to hand it all to OH to sort but he knows no more than I do - spends half his life with his laptop. It looks as though what I want to do will work then - just got to find out how to do it! And now I'll probably be "Kindling" all the time as well...
Once again thanks for all your encouragement - I knew you'd all come up trumps once again!

Library books are protected you will not be able to use on a Kindle.

I don't want to read Library books Peter- as I said its specialised books I already have on my laptop. From the Library give me reaL books every time...

Kindle uses so-called Mobi files. They are available from places other than Amazon, such as Smashwords and Project Gutenberg. Gutenberg has thousands of free books (all the classics) which are out of copyright. Gutenberg.org is brilliant!

Mine is a Kindle Paperwhite and as far as I know I cannot download from sources other than kindle. One can transfer from kindle to kindle but I have never done it. I would think that the Kindle tablet is more versatile.
