Please can you advise about daphne odora Rebecca . It's been in the ground for 18 months ( 2 winters) and no signs of flowers. There's some new growth but I can't see flower buds. Should I feed it this spring and summer. Plus does it need to be very cold to produce flowers. We've had very little frost up here in the north east this winter.

If it is a young Daphne I think it just needs time to establish itself.

I don't think you are alone with the poor flowering of Daphne Odora. I have one on my patio which I have nurtured in a pot with restrictive root growth in the hope of encouraging it to flower. As yet, its has dropped its leaves and is growing new ones but not sign of flowering after two years. I have a Daphne Eternal Fragrance in a pot which has flowered in late summer and it now in flower again. For a large Daphne I would recommend Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill' but only if you have about £30 or so to spend. As MG suggests, just stick with it.

Hi, I agree with the others, I have 'marginata' and in the 3 years I've had it, it has had 3 flowers on it, Derek.

We've never had a problem with D. Odora once it was settled...

Next question
Hi, can anyone identify this plant for me please? Many thanks. »
mine is just starting to show new growth with the odd bud. perhaps it is just settling in as they don't 'like' root disturbance. To be honest I don't feed mine.
