Usually 2-3 years, depending on the age of the plant when you bought it.
As for pruning, you won't need to worry for the first year or so, but after that, in early spring (late March in the UK) cut all the leaves off back to the central stump, clip out any flowered stems at the base where they emerge from the plant, rake out the centre to clear any debris, and that's it. Alternatively, use a flamethrower to burn it all off, preferably not setting fire to it so seriously that its razed to the ground, you're just trying to remove the bulk of the foliage.

If you live in one of the warmer areas of the United States, like I do, it will probably bloom this August. It may not be full sized, and needing pruning, for another year. As Bamboo says, when pruning is needed, prune hard in early spring.

welcome to GoY.
the age of the plant will make a difference. How big is the plant you have. They flower in autumn in the uk so I assume it will be the same for you.
hopefully one of your USA comrades will be able to answer this for you.
