I put a greengage seed in a pot last fall<did not expect this>but I now have a 2 inch high seedling?where too next.

Yep, it might be sweet and nice, or it might be a "spitter"-- where you wind up spraying the garden with half-chewed fruit! ;) For that matter, depending on the pollen parent, it may not even be green.

Well, if you want to keep it, you need to find somewhere in the garden for it - it can be kept in a pot until autumn, provided you increase the pot size by potting on as necessary until then. The fruit it eventually might provide may or may not be the same as the one you planted.
