My lily of the valley is not sprouting yet (April 5, 2017). It had a lot of brown rust on the leaves at the end of the season last year and I tried to remove these but I did not pull out the plant. Did this kill it? Or is there still time for it to sprout? I live in Michigan and it is very early spring. Other perennials like pachysandra have grown already.

Here where I live in uk the shoots are aprox six inches high, your climate may be a little different to ours and possibly a little behind, but have a close look and try and carefully scrape the soil back to reveal those purplish bud like shoots, please let us all know how you get on.

I live in New York, about the same grow zone as Michigan. My Lily of the Valley is lazy and slow waking up, but it never disappoints. It's early yet, in a couple weeks you will see it emerging. It usually comes up along side my hostas.

Ours are 6" high with flower buds showing. But two weeks ago they had hardly broken the surface - take heart, they grow very fast once they get started.

How do I say thanks?
